Jewish Art and Architecture
Jewish art and architecture started in the eighteenth century. It started because a man named Christian Hebraists and other bible scholars began to have interest in biblical architecture. The Mosaic Tabernacle, the Solomonic Temple, and the Herodian Temple are all examples of biblical architecture.
Even though Judaism did have some kind of an impact on architecture, the religion did not really have a big impact on it. Jewish architecture was mainly a hybrid architecture, which meant they used other's architecture to help theirs. Hybrid architecture was frowned upon by nineteenth and twentieth century racial and national purists. The State of Israel was established in the nineteenth century and "Jewish art' became the national art. |
